What is the advantage of finding a family on Place My Baby?

Choosing the right family to adopt your baby could be the most important decision you will ever make. Place My Baby exposes you to many different families from across the country. There are families that meet almost every need or desire. Having a large pool of families to choose from means you are more likely to find a family that is perfect for you.

How are adoptive families screened?

Couples who are planning on adopting a baby must complete a process called a home study. This means they are thoroughly screened. The home study typically includes criminal and health background checks as well as home visits and a review of finances to ensure a couple is capable of parenting a child. Every state requires that adopting couples complete a home study. In addition to the mandatory screening, you will be able to meet and evaluate waiting adoptive parents. We want you to be completely comfortable and confident with your placement choice.

What happens after I have selected a family?

We arrange for you to have an initial phone call. During the initial call you will get to know the family. After the call you can decide if they are the family you would like to match with. If you decide to take the next step, you will be contacted by their adoption agency or adoption attorney, who will walk you through the next steps. You will be provided a local counselor to be there for you and to help you along the way.

Can I receive help with pregnancy related living expenses?

Laws regarding living expenses will vary depending on the state you reside in. Most states allow for pregnancy related expenses. Allowable expenses typically include rent, utilities, food, transportation and maternity clothes. Also, all counseling, medical and legal services will be provided at no cost to you.

Can I choose between open or closed adoption?

You can decide how open you want the adoption to be. Every woman has different needs and desires regarding how open they want their adoption to be. Most women want to receive pictures and letters through the years, some desire visits and some prefer to have no contact. The choice is yours. We have waiting families that will be willing to meet your needs for ongoing contact.

How long will I have to change my mind?

The law regarding termination of rights varies from state to state. The attorney or agency hired to represent you will thoroughly explain your rights to you. Their job is to make sure you are fully aware of your rights and that you have a complete understanding before you sign anything.

What happens if the father of the baby does not agree with the adoption?

You will be provided legal guidance to determine the rights of the expectant father. If the expectant father is in agreement with the adoption, we welcome his involvement. If the expectant father is unknown or does not agree with the adoption, we will provide an attorney to help with termination of his rights. Every state has different laws. The attorney provided will ensure all the laws are followed and that everyone’s rights are protected.
