Hi! We are Mike and Megan, two teachers who love being with kids more than anything else. We appreciate your consideration of us as adoptive parents. We have so much to give and are excited to welcome a baby into our family with wide, open arms!
We are a bit different in our journey to adoption. See, we have built a family of 6. Mike has 4 biological children, ages 11-16, and they have lovingly brought Megan into their family as a stepmother. The 4 kids have mentioned wanting a younger sibling for years. There is something about the warmth and comfort of a large family. So we offer your little boy or girl a chance to be surrounded by the love of six, while at the same time being the first newborn child for us as a couple.
We are both are teachers of the year from our states, recognized for our work with elementary school students. And we not only enjoy our work with kids in the classroom, but we love being parents. We long to expand our family with a much-wanted baby, and hope you will consider us as adoptive parents to your child.
We are both passionate educators (Megan taught 4th grade and Mike taught 2nd grade), and met on a teacher board for a children’s education company. We have been together for almost seven years and find that we bring out the best in one another.
We love both hometown adventures and traveling. We have chased spider monkeys in Costa Rica and climbed the steep paths of the Grand Canyon. But there are two very special places we travel to as a family that we can’t wait to introduce to our new little one.
The High Hampton Inn in Cashiers is the place Megan’s family has been visiting since she was young, and now we bring the kids there to be with Megan’s family every summer. It’s a family camp with no phones and no televisions! We swim in a mountain lake, hike mountains, and eat family meals together. We can’t wait to bring our new baby to the cabin and introduce him or her to their first llama (yes, the lodge has llamas!).
And our family loves Longboat Key, an island off the gulf coast of Florida. We surf in the waves, build sand castles, and walk the beach looking for sea turtle nests. We can’t wait to introduce our new baby to sandy toes and beach life, and watch their face when they see their first dolphin.
We live in the same beautiful and historic New England home Mike’s grandparents lived in. Our home is filled with the kids’ framed artwork and the backyard is full of family projects. There’s a vegetable garden, a frog pond with a small waterfall the kids helped build, and a fire pit for marshmallow roasts. And our dead-end road is filled with children ages 2-17, so there is often laughter and other kid shenanigans. It’s the perfect place to raise a baby!
We have four beautiful children, who are Mike’s biological children. Daniel is the oldest at 16, and is our local science expert. He works at Look Park, a beautiful park ¼ mile away where he helps run the paddle boats.
Allison (Alli), the only girl, is 14. Alli is our straight A student and star soccer player. She loves babysitting and is the big sister for all the neighborhood kids.
Sean,13, is our future engineer. He loves playing football and lacrosse and is our super-sensitive middle child. He loves science, building things, and playing video games. He recently saved up and bought his own computer!
Collin is the youngest at 11. He loves searching for worms in our backyard to feed to the frogs and fish in our pond. He is frequently taking care of people—bringing Megan a cup of hot tea while she is teaching or writing sweet notes to his siblings.
And the dogs! Oliver is a hound/lab mix, and he has a schedule of whose bed he is snuggling in at night. And Lucy is a big, fuzzy golden retriever, usually smiling (and begging for food!).
We have a wonderful family, but it is feeling incomplete. We can’t wait to fill that spot and fill our new baby’s life with love and fun adventures! And lots of laughter, of course.
About Megan by Mike
When anyone meets Megan the first thing they see is a beautiful woman who lights up a room with her warm and caring personality. I know because that’s how I felt when I first met her. She has an amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome. As you get to know her, you’ll discover other qualities like her strong intellect, continual sense of adventure, and great sense of humor. On top of these, she is a super fun person to be around. She is always looking to have adventures, whether it’s an impromptu trip to a museum or an afternoon hike with the dogs. Megan truly understands life is all about having experiences. These are just some of the reasons why I love her so much.
Megan has been a huge burst of energy in my life and the lives of my children. She embraced her role as stepmother with all of her heart and I’ve adored watching their relationships develop. She has an innate ability to find the unique qualities in each of them, finding ways to have meaningful connections. She will endure a scary horror film because Dan really likes them and they can bond over that experience. She takes Alli on girls-only shopping trips where they get their nails done and have opportunities to talk. She finds interesting projects for Sean to help satiate his love of problem solving and then watches with interest as he demonstrates his creations. She helped Collin develop into a voracious reader and the two of them bond over trips to the bookstore and their nightly reading dates.
Megan is an incredible stepmother and wife. She is so full of love —I know she will be an incredible adoptive mother. Megan has a gift when it comes to children. She was an adored classroom teacher, going out of her way to make sure students had everything they needed. She’s gone above and beyond for our children. What I’m trying to say is that Megan is the most selfless person I know. She has made me a better person and she has had such an incredible influence over our children. Any child would be lucky to have Megan as a mother.
About Mike by Megan
Mike is the kindest, smartest, most wonderful and big-hearted man I know (and he’s so charming and handsome!). He is the guy who is always thinking of others instead of himself. He gets up early every morning (sometimes at 4 or 5 am on a Saturday!) to pay bills or return emails so he can be fully present when the family wakes up. Cooking breakfast for me and the kids is one of his favorite things—he loves hosting slumber parties and playing cafe in the morning, cooking eggs and pancakes to order. And he always has my coffee ready for me when I wake up—he loves to spoil me rotten! He’s the guy who makes sure I have fresh flowers on my kitchen island every week.
One of the reasons I fell in love with him was his love of children (which are also my favorite people in the world!). As both a former second grade teacher and a father, he has dedicated his whole life to children. I love watching him as he builds robots with Sean, catches worms to feed to our frogs with Collin, or paints with Alli. He coaches football for the boys, he has been to a cake decorating class with Alli, and he tries to read the same books that Dan is reading. He is all heart with this children—being a father is his favorite thing in the world. And he is so amazing at it. It makes my heart double in size every time I see him shine proudly around his kids!
I’m so proud of Mike and all he’s accomplished. And I’m especially proud to be his wife! First, he’s hilarious—he has me cracking up constantly. He’s also a published author of a math book for elementary school teachers and of children’s books. He spends his days working with math teachers so they can grow into better educators, working to make the world a better place for kids.
I love his smile, his monstrous dimples, his charming nature, and his passion for life. Anyone in his life is better for it! He is an amazing father, educator, role model, and husband. I can’t wait to bring another child into his orbit and watch him or her learn, grow, and live encompassed by the love from this great man.
What we hope to offer a child
We can’t wait to raise our baby with fun, laughter, and adventures as we enjoy life in a small town. We also look forward to traveling with our child, sharing their first dive in a cold mountain lake, their first swim with a dolphin, or their first time looking at boats on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean. We can’t wait to explore the world with our baby!
We look forward to raising a child surrounded by the love of a big family, where we value respect, laughter, adventure, hard work, and education.
As two educators, we strongly value the importance of education as a lever for children to do anything they want in life. We will offer our child the best education that is out there, starting with childcare at home and experiences with us. We are at a point in our lives where we can afford to take our family to places we wouldn’t have been able to when we were younger. We have researched the best schools in town and will start a college fund.
We offer a home full of love with two experienced parents who love children more than anything.
