We are a young, happily married, life-loving couple from Southern Illinois! We have been together for five years and we are loving every minute of it!
It has always been our dream to be parents, and we have known adoption is the path we are going to take to realize this dream. We cannot imagine the courage and strength it must take to consider placing a baby for adoption, and we want to thank you for considering us as your child’s future parents.
We have put this letter together to help you get to know us a little better and give you a little insight into our life and the life we are excited to offer your child.
Five years ago, Jacob was working in Owensboro, Kentucky where Danielle was going to college. A quick Facebook message from Jacob inviting Danielle to attend his Sunday school class (because he was too nervous to ask in person) turned into something amazing. Our personalities clicked, and we fell in love quickly! Four years later, we were married in Danielle’s home church by her mother who is a Methodist minister. Since then our relationship has continued to grow as we bring out the best in each other. While Danielle has helped Jacob break out of his shell, Jacob has helped Danielle learn to kick back and relax every once in a while. We are truly best friends (cheesy, we know, but so incredibly true!).
Danielle is from Ohio, and Jacob is from Kentucky, but we are currently living in Southern Illinois while Danielle finishes her doctorate. This area offers many outdoor activities we love to take advantage of. Particularly, this is home to some of the most beautiful hiking trails where we often imagine pushing a stroller on someday soon! We enjoy doing just about anything from hiking up mountains which are probably too steep to be on to binge watching 13 Reasons Why and Fuller House on Netflix. Whenever we get a chance to try something new together, we do it!
We also love hanging out with family and friends. We live a few hours away from both of our families, but we enjoy making trips to see everyone on the weekends and holidays. The weekend trips are quick, but they are packed with fun with our parents and siblings. We enjoy going up to Ohio to watch Danielle’s five siblings participate in sporting events and to Kentucky to go swimming or rock climbing with Jacob’s family. While weekend trips are busy, holidays tend to be more laid back. We simply enjoy spending time with our huge families in Kentucky or Ohio, going to church together, and eating way too many of Grandma’s homemade chocolates!
Life has been so much fun and full of blessings, and we are ready to expand our family. Danielle was born with a condition which prevents her from conceiving a baby, so we have always known adoption would be our means of becoming parents. Of course, coping with infertility has been difficult. However, it is our dream of adoption that allowed us to overcome this obstacle. We are so excited to be on this journey and so grateful this is the plan God laid out for us.
About Danielle by Jacob
Danielle is the most loving person I have ever met. One of the things that attracted me to her initially was her huge, contagious smile. This smile truly represents the kind of person she is: sweet, happy, and fun (unless she’s hungry, then watch out!). From dancing around the room to her favorite Carrie Underwood songs to being my “assistant” on construction projects, she loves to have a good time!
Danielle enjoys being active, and I have grown to love this lifestyle along with her. She is often getting me to go hiking, on walks, or to play tennis. I swear she is driven by a motor. She hardly ever sits still! Name any activity and I guarantee she has tried it from piano and trumpet to dance and tennis. She even tried hockey, although I hear that was not a good experience! Danielle has said many times how supportive her parents were of her involvement in all of these activities. If they weren’t coaching the team they were in the front row videotaping. I can imagine Danielle getting our kids dressed for a dance recital, coaching them on the tennis court, or cheering them on until she loses her voice. She is going to be our kids’ biggest fan!
While Danielle has a love for people in general, her heart was definitely made for children. Everywhere we go, Danielle finds a new 3-year-old best friend, a teenager to chat with, or a baby to make giggle. I can only imagine how much joy she is going to get out of talking and laughing with our kids one day. Part of Danielle’s connection with kids has to do with the fact she is the oldest of six siblings. She is so close to her big family, and we are excited to have a big family of our own one day! Danielle is pursuing her passion for children through her work, as well. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology and will soon be a child psychologist. She works with children who are struggling in school or having trouble at home, and she works with parents on learning more effective ways to parent. Her love for and knowledge about kids is one of the many things that is going to make her an awesome mom!
About Jacob by Danielle
Jacob is the most generous, patient, and loving man I have ever met. He has a heart of gold and never hesitates to do anything for anybody. The first thing I noticed about Jacob when I met him was how kind and genuine he is. Not a day goes by that I don’t get reminded how much I am loved and how lucky I am to call him my husband. No matter how tough of a day he has had, he is always willing to let me vent about my day and make something delicious for supper. I cannot wait to see him share his loving heart with our son or daughter.
When you first meet Jacob, you think he’s quiet, shy, and reserved. Wrong! Give him a minute and he’s the goofiest person in the room. He never fails to make me laugh after I’ve had a long, stressful day. He is super close to his brother, Tyler, and I can see them pulling our kids into pranks (probably at my expense) and other “creative” activities. Jacob is also an extremely skilled handyman! He works in the electrical maintenance field, and there is nothing he can’t fix. He has already put together some beautiful furniture for the baby’s room. Right now, I am Jacob’s assistant when we are doing projects around the house, but I’m sure I’ll be replaced as soon as our baby starts walking. Jacob has already talked about getting our kids a mini toolbox and tools so they can be daddy’s little helper! I can see them working together to build a tree house, a ramp for the bicycles, a go-cart track, and probably many other things I can’t even imagine right now!
I can’t help but smile when I think of Jacob as a dad. He is going to be the most protective, loving, fun dad I could ever hope for, for our kids. He is already so great with our nieces who love him to pieces. He has done everything with them from throwing them in the pool to making indoor forts out of blankets and pillows to building the most impressive princess castle out of Legos I’ve ever seen! The most important quality I looked for in a husband was a man who would be an amazing dad to our kids, and I definitely found that in Jacob.
What We Hope To Offer A Child
Throughout this letter you will read a number of things we will provide your child, but they all come second to this promise. We promise to love your child with all of our heart. Nothing will come before them and nothing will ever be as important as they are. Not a day will go by that they won’t know how loved they are through our words and actions. We also promise to offer a supportive environment for them to flourish and achieve whatever goals they set for themselves. This includes everything from being their biggest fans in whatever activities they are doing to creating a college fund to allow them to pursue their dreams. In our home we will model and instill values such as being kind to everyone, working hard, and loving life. Your child will not only be supported by us but also by our families who are beyond excited to be grandparents, aunts, and uncles. They will enjoy holidays, birthdays, and weekend trips surrounded by this family who loves to get together and have a good time. We are so excited for this addition to our family, and we cannot wait to raise them to be happy, healthy, and grateful for all the blessings life has to offer.
Thoughts on Adoption
We are so excited to be on this adoption journey! We hope this letter answered some of the questions you may have about us. As your child’s adoptive parents we plan to be completely transparent with your child about their adoption story. We will tell them all about their birth mother and birth family and the courageous and selfless decision they made because they love them so much. We realize your child will likely have questions about their birth family and adoption story. We plan to do everything we can to answer those questions and tell them everything we know and anything you would like them to know about you. Also, we believe it is important to honor any cultural or racial differences we may have from you and your child. We will be excited to learn about this culture so we may help them learn about and celebrate their heritage. Regarding communication and the openness of the adoption, we are willing to communicate via email or phone before your baby is born, and we would also be willing to meet you in person if you would like. After the baby is born, we would be more than happy to send and receive pictures and letters.
We cannot wait to become parents, and we thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little better! If you are interested in learning more about our family, please reach out to Cindy Simonson at A Loving Alternative (800) 556-5635.
