Our paths crossed while attending the same church service one evening over 18 years ago. With only a smile and a “Hello”, we felt an instant attraction. We spent several years learning about each other, building relationships with our families, and sharing important milestones. Although our careers took us apart for several years, we reconnected and rekindled the love we shared for each other. It seemed as though no time had passed. We got engaged while hiking in the White Mountains and married in the same church where we met.
Marriage is about two people coming together to form a loving unit. We each bring our individual strengths together to form a strong bond as wife and husband. Our relationship is built on a solid friendship supported by trust, kindness, laughter, and love. We share the love we have for each other with everyone we meet.
After getting married, we immediately began planning for our family. We soon learned of fertility issues and gave fertility treatments a chance. Now we’ve decided to change our focus to adoption and are thrilled and honored to someday receive the greatest gift of family this way.
We enjoy an active lifestyle together exploring the world around us in every season. During the week, you can find us going on evening walks around town, enjoying ice cream at our local ice cream stand, relaxing on our deck and meeting at our local Starbucks. Our weekends are spent biking, hiking, bird watching, spending time on the water kayaking and paddle-boarding, skiing, and exploring state parks. Each summer, we embark on a week-long camping (in a tent) vacation exploring a new state park and the surrounding area. In the winter, we head north for a long weekend ski vacation. We look forward to celebrating the July holiday camping in Annette’s father’s motorhome. Our sense of exploration also includes traveling out of the country. On these vacations, we spend time relaxing, as well as learning about the area we are in. We often visit local wildlife parks and try new activities. We cannot wait for the day we have a child to share our love for the outdoors and create our own family adventures.
When not exploring the outdoors, we are creating lasting memories with family and friends. Game nights and family dinners are a favorite weekday activity. We enjoy taking in a sports game with friends. Holidays and special occasions are spent celebrating with family. We attend weekly mass with Annette’s father, followed by breakfast at our favorite cafe. Our social circle is one built on common ground and lasting laughter. We share our home with our beta fish, Charlie, and our adopted cat, Shadow. They bring us constant joy and unconditional love.
We live in a quiet, suburban neighborhood about 30 miles west of Boston. Annette grew up in this town and it is also not far from where Joe grew up. There is a mixture of younger and older families in our neighborhood who all offer a lending hand to each other. There are many things to do in our town, such as festivals on Main Street, the farmers’ market, sledding at the golf course, concerts on the square, and parades.
We have a large yard with plenty of room to run and play. There’s a small hill in the back yard which is perfect for rolling down (we’ve tried it out!). There’s often a snowman or two in the yard during the winter, and a pair of scarecrows in the fall that look remarkably like us.
About Annette by Joe
On our wedding day, as I looked out across the church, I saw a beautiful and confident woman standing next to her proud father. I fondly recalled she was standing in that exact spot 15 years before, when she introduced herself to me. Proudly, I realized then, that I was about to marry my true love! Annette is an amazing person and is going to be an amazing mom. She is full of love, laughter, energy, and nurturing that she can’t wait to share with a child.
Annette has a vibrant passion for the outdoors, and being active, no matter the season or weather. This began at a young age, as she followed her dad around the yard. She enjoyed climbing trees in the backyard, and swimming and entertaining friends in the family pool. Some of her favorite activities include rollerblading, biking, swimming, being on the water and going to the gym. She is full of life and eager to try new things which I admire. Annette recently took up cross-country skiing and learning how to dry needle felt 3D objects and animals. She will be the first person to drop down in the snow and make a snow angel!
Annette thinks of others’ needs before her own, goes out of her way to show she cares and is thinking about me. Her thoughtfulness is evident in everything she does. For example, if she goes to bed before I do, she will leave the nightlight on for me. When I’m at work, I’ll often find a loving note she’s slipped into my bag or lunchbox to surprise me.
Annette is a very supportive wife and life partner. In good times and in bad, she has been my foundation, sounding board, and confidante. With my career as a teacher, she has provided encouragement and support. Around the house she likes to get her hands dirty helping take care of our home as much as she likes to get creative in the kitchen. She is not afraid to get on the roof, run the snow blower, crawl under the house or use the nail gun to get something done. In the kitchen, she loves to turn up the music and sing while she whips up her World Famous Tuna Melts (one of my favorites) and her patent-pending apple crisp.
Often I will catch Annette looking at a mother with a young baby in her arms. She will squeeze my hand and smile at me, and I can see the strong desire in her eyes. I know Annette wants to share her love and enthusiasm for life with a child!
About Joe by Annette
What first caught my attention, 18 years ago, was Joe’s warmth and kindness as he smiled at me with his big brown eyes. I instantly felt safe and secure. Joe is the light of my life and I am entirely grateful to have such a wonderful man be a part of it.
Joe is a true gentleman who always makes me feel respected and protected. He holds doors open for me, insists on carrying the shopping bags so I can carry my coffee and he wants me to walk on the inside of the sidewalk safely away from the cars when we go on our evening walks. He lets me know he cares by writing little notes, getting up early to remove the snow off my car, and bringing me flowers and balloons to celebrate achievements, or “just because.”
I have never met anyone as strong and supportive as Joe. In times of hardship and loss, I am able to lean on my husband for comfort, unwavering love and strength, while I find my bearings and rise up again. There are years where he has worked many different jobs to ensure the life we have is secure and he provides a solid foundation on which to grow. Joe is, and always will be, the stability, support and strength of our family. I can trust that we will always find the strength to tackle any obstacle because of him.
I am in awe of Joe’s intelligence on many different topics from current affairs to how to get gum out of a rug. His curiosity about how things work and what is going on in the world drives his love of learning and his pursuit for knowledge. He often learns by watching a program, teaching himself a new skill, reading or being an active listener. This love of learning led Joe to become a grade school teacher. I have loved watching him teach in the classroom because it is about more than just a lesson for him, he wants to make sure that everyone learns and enjoys it. He incorporates fun and creativity into his classroom while giving students a safe place to voice their opinion and express themselves while learning the way they need to. The thought of him teaching our children is something that fills my heart with joy and pride.
I love his playful humor, and he is silly and fun. When I am having a bad day, he brightens my mood by making me laugh. We just get each other’s jokes. Shadow, our 1-year-old black cat, loves to play hide and seek with Joe and to be honest, I can see and hear that Joe loves it too. Shadow certainly has him wrapped around his paw. I can only imagine how this will translate to our children. I know Joe yearns to be a father as I see how he looks at other fathers with their children.
I am blessed every day to share my love and life with my best friend, the keeper of my heart and my rock! He is my grounding so I can soar and be the best person I can be.
What we hope to offer a child
We have so much love to share, and look forward to having the opportunity to give this unconditional love to a child. We want to provide a wonderful life for them with a balanced mixture of being silly, young at heart and having fun, while being supportive and teaching them strong values.
Our child will have aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins who are eager to embrace a child and surround them with love. Just as importantly, over the years we have built an extended family of friends that are ready to support us and our child on this journey. Between friends and family, they will have many other young people to grow up with. Fortunately, we are in a financial situation that will allow us to fill a child’s life with enriching activities, as well as traveling and adventure.
